"To love someone is to ‘privilege’ them: to regard them and - TopicsExpress

"To love someone is to ‘privilege’ them: to regard them and treat them unequally above all those that are not loved (and, with all due disrespect to various religions, we cannot love everyone, or even behave as though we do). But, though we might be lovingly remembered, to die is to become finally and forever equal to all other dead people in their absolute non-existence. We shall all become equal soon enough; there is no rush. For human beings, love is one of the best things in the world and death is one of the worst. To the extent that one is in favor of equality one is ultimately rejecting love and embracing death: this is not just a fanciful trope; it is what we see to the extent that equality is aggressively imposed on people. Just like democracy, equality is a fatally flawed ideal that has become mistakenly and confusedly associated with original liberalism." -- Jan Lester
