+++ Towards a 21st Century Club: +++ Gor Mahia FC that we all love has a wonderful history! A team formed hastily by the union of two great foes towards the realization of a stronger unit that could counter the rise and rise of Abaluhya FC of those days. In his first season, Gor went on to win the league – A major lesson we can draw from today – If the leaders then had stuck to the status quo we may not have been enjoying these moments we are enjoying today. Why am I saying this? Over the last few weeks (actually months) we have been campaigning for various candidates to take over leadership of this great club in various capacities ranging from the coveted chairmanship to the assistant organizing sec. I must congratulate you all for being so passionate about our club and continually engaging and interrogating these candidates. I believe by now it is a well known fact by all and sundry that I am a fierce supporter and campaigner for Eric Adede. I don’t do this out of a vendetta, or any hatred for our current chair – Ambrose Rachier, NO. I do this because I believe in Eric Adede’s plans for the future of this club. I do this because I am tired of waking up every day and reading incessant complaints about the poor conditions our players are subjected to! Be it lack of water (sometimes) during training, poor and even delayed remuneration and allowances, no medical cover, poor travel arrangements, poor accommodation when performing away. As an example, our players were not even able to train yesterday due to a lack of training venue – all this at 45 years of age! I believe in Eric Adede because he has a plan to reverse all this. In the short term, Eric plans to: a. Provide comprehensive medical cover for all our players and technical bench members. This cover will include their immediate family b. Provide Comfortable and safe transport to and from training sessions and matches c. Provide decent competitive remuneration through a reputable bank. d. Renegotiate and Sign long term contracts for our best players to ensure stability. e. Employ a fulltime dietician, physiotherapist, and a counsellor for the team. When Eric informed me of these plans that have so far proved too difficult for the last 45 years, I asked him; Sir, how do you plan to achieve this in 1 year? This was his response: “I will focus on three main things in the first few months- Membership drive, better management of our gate collections, and security. A well coordinated countrywide member registration at a uniform fee of 500ksh and at least 100 000 people register that will be a cool 50 million, enough to get comprehensive insur¬ance for our players and TB, improve their overall take home pay, improve their contracts, enrol them in a world class gym, get them a dietician and physiotherapists and arrange for better transportation to and from training sessions and matches while plans for a state of the art bus is still underway and, last but not least, attract and afford the very best players regionally and beyond to K’Ogalo. With collections currently stand at an average of 1 m per home game – at least 2 million from the two home games per month. Once security in and around the stadium and ticket¬ing and gate collections management plans implemented, we envisage a situation where there will be an increase in the number of fans attending our games resulting in more rev¬enue for the club. Bringing more fans to the stadium starts with making the stadium a safer place even for fam-ilies to come with kids. That means hooliganism has to be stopped, bhang smoking stopped and security increased in and around the stadiums. So many people yearn to experience that stadium atmosphere but can’t for fear. After that it will be easy to market our matches more! These are some of the reasons why I support Eric Adede and why I keep imploring all those that love this great club to take a chance, just like the founders of our club did in 1968 and move towards the future. I am saddened that even with the stability we have experienced over the last few years, our players are still not some of the best paid in the region. It is a shame that nondescript teams can even dare challenge the mighty Gor Mahia Wuod Ogalo for the signature of excellent players, yet we stretch our feet, take a sip and post on facebook ati whoever nyale or oknyal – LET US WAKE UP! Over the next few days, I will take it upon myself, with the help of my able team to present to you in detail – Eric Adede’s short, medium, and long term plans for transforming Gor Mahia into a 21st Century club.
