"Tracking with Sarai" Sarai said to Abram, “Now behold, the Lord has prevented me from bearing children. Please go in to my maid; perhaps I shall obtain children through her.” And Abram listened to the voice of Sarai (Genesis 16:2, New American Standard Bible). Scripture: Genesis 16:1-6 Song: “The Christ of Every Crisis” The speaker placed a large purse on the podium. She removed the contents, one by one, as she continued to speak about the various ways we could pray. For the next 20 minutes, we heard suggestions for time of day and places to use for prayer. She encouraged us to be unique and creative with our choices and not to copy someone else. Our lecturer also suggested that the format for our daily prayers could start with praise, followed by confession, continuing with intercession, and closing with our petitions. “When you ask God for help,” she continued, “how many of you really leave your answers up to Him?” Then she took the items from the podium and placed them, individually, back into the purse. “Many of us give God our prayers and worries in the morning,” she said. “And then, throughout the day, we take them back, one at a time.” My eyes were moist as I thought of how I did this too. It was as if I didn’t trust God to do things His way without my help. Sarai, sometimes we’re on the same wavelength, aren’t we? O Lord God, I am sorry for getting in the way of Your work and trying to engineer the circumstances of my life. Please help me to let go and focus more on trusting in Your omnipotent power. In the Holy name of Jesus, amen."
