“Tsaritsa Yoanna – ISUL” hospital is expected to save BGN 100 000 per year by using renewable energy and energy efficiency measures. This has been announced on September 18th at the official presentation of the project in the yard of the hospital, organized by the Dutch company Djadadji, partner within the project. Among the novelties are the newly introduced energy management and monitoring systems, the photovoltaic installations used for heating and hot water, energy storage methods, etc. “With the present unstable geopolitical situation in Eastern Europe, energy saving becomes even more a pressing issue. Projects, like the one we have today, are a win-win concept, because they save energy and save costs”, said the Deputy Ambassador Riny Bus in her address. “I wish that this project inspires and leads others to invest into energy saving measures”, she added. In response the organisers announced that in October a dedicated symposium will be organized, where management bodies of hospitals throughout the country will be invited and presented with the project results and best practices. The STACCATO project included three European capital districts - Amsterdam-Noord (Amsterdam), Óbuda (Budapest) and Oborishte (Sofia). Its main goal was to demonstrate sustainable energy concepts in representative existing residential areas. The project in Sofia has been successfully implemented with a grant of BGN 530 000 under STACCATO. Partners involved were Sofia Municipality, Djadadji and the Sofia Energy Agency – SOFENA.
