[Tshering Wangchuk Lepchas Post] Ode to mothers on the floor Today I visited Sikkim maternity ward (STNM) at Gangtok,Sikkim. I have been here before but today was different. Have you ever felt when you want to ignore and you cant ignore at all ? Yes that same feeling when I wanted to move on and ignore but then moving on was not the option. A baby ( 4 days born), shrilled from the floor. The sound was so painful that I stopped by to console the Mother and spoke with the helpless father and told him I am going to speak about this feeling someday. Sikkim had Crude Birth rate of 17.6 % according to Sikkim statistics 2013 and i am sure most of the dear mothers sleeps on the floor due to lack of beds and space. The health sector on which the government boasts about stinks with corruption when you come across these intolerable scenes. I mean Can you imagine your mother on the floor in this winter chill? Yes I know a new hospital complex is coming up but that doesnot mean you should stop ignoring the one that exist.
