#UPDATE: At approximately 0630 AEDT two days ago, after more than three weeks without contact, the “Thunder” shone its search lights into the bridge of The MV Bob Barker. Initially, the event appeared to be an isolated incident. However, later that day, the Thunder changed its course, turning directly toward the Bob Barker. Given the superior speed of the Bob Barker, Captain Peter Hammarstedt was able to steer the Sea Shepherd ship out of the path of the poaching vessel. The incident lasted approximately one hour, after which time the Bob Barker resumed its pursuit of the Thunder. Today, again at approximately 0630 AEDT, the Thunder once more shone its lights into the bridge of the Bob Baker and changed course, steering aggressively, directly towards the Sea Shepherd ship. This time, the Thunder also made radio contact with the Bob Barker, saying: “Stupid Bob Barker. Stupid Bob Barker. Are you sleeping?” Captain Peter Hammarstedt reports that contact was made by an individual who appeared to be inebriated – presumably the Captain of the Thunder. Asked to identify himself by name, the Captain refused. Captain Peter Hammarstedt said, “Our record-breaking pursuit has obviously agitated the Thunder. They are acting in a manner which is irrational and unpredictable. However, given our speed advantage, I am confident that I will be able to avoid any immediate danger posed by the poachers.” #SeaShepherd #OperationIcefish
