********************UPDATE******************* Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office News Release Vehicle Used to Assault a Denver Woman Pulled from Lincoln County Pond November 4, 2013 Lincolnton, NC – A vehicle believed to have been used to injure a Denver woman was pulled from a northern Lincoln County pond this afternoon. (Monday) Following interviews with several individuals Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office CID Lt. Tim Johnson and Detective Mark Stamey received information that led officers to a pond on Gladden Drive off Springs East Road. With the assistance of the Channel 9 helicopter detectives located the vehicle about 75 feet from shore. A wrecker service was called in and pulled the vehicle from the water with the assistance of LCSO certified diver Deputy John Isaacks. The 2001 Chevrolet Silverado Extended Cab pickup is being stored at the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office impound lot. The vehicle belonged to the victim, Sherry Joe Tobeler, 54, of the 6600 block of Billie’s Way, Denver who died today at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. Working through the weekend, detectives have interviewed three possible suspects in the case. Detectives say Mrs. Tobeler and several other people had been to a pool hall in Maiden and a bar in Denver before arriving at the intersection of Highway 150 East and Mack Ballard Road. At that point an argument occurred between the occupants and Mrs. Tobeler got out of the vehicle and called Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and Catawba County 911. The call was transferred to Lincoln County 911. The truck sped away apparently running over the victim who had fallen to the ground. She was transported to CMC-Main where she underwent surgery for head injuries. Warrants have been issued for the following suspects: Derek Allen Williams, 25, of 421 Springs East Road, Lincolnton, NC is charged with felony Second Degree Murder. Patricia Ann Stroupe, 50, of 2584 Southland Trail, Lincolnton, NC is charged with Accessory After the Fact of Murder. Alesha Michelle Werner, 25, of 161 Lilly Trail, Maiden, NC is charged with Accessory After the Fact of Murder. The suspects have not been taken into custody. # # # #
