***UPDATE!*** We checked in with New Hope Spay / Neuter Clinic - as of 11 am this morning $705 has been donated - thank you everyone! As wonderful as that is, we still have $1,225 to go to get the current charges covered! That is a large amount - so please give whatever you can! HELP NEEDED! We need the Facebook village to come together to HELP US HELP THE THREE WATERBURY DOGS! TO DONATE DIRECTLY TO NEW HOPE SPAY / NEUTER CLINIC - click on the following link to make a PayPal Payment - please be sure to include a note on your payment that says either Waterbury Dogs or Furry Friends Foster and Rescue, Inc. hopect.org/donate-2/ We took Daisy, Nana, and Jordon into our rescue two days ago. They had been living in an abandoned house since November - no heat, no people - all alone. We took them to Hope Spay / Neuter Clinic yesterday morning. Hope generously agreed to donate basic vetting for these dogs. BUT ... WAY more than basic vetting is needed! Right now the total bill is estimated to be approximately $2,000 for total vetting of the three dogs. NANA - Nana had pyometra - a serious infection of the uterus which, if it ruptures, can cause systemic infection and death. In addition, at 7 years old, Hope feels she has had at least 10-12 litters of puppies. She has a heart murmur, and she is about 12 lbs overweight, which further complicated the surgery. Because of her age and the heart murmur, as well as the increased difficulty of the surgery, Nana was operated on with a vitals package (catheter, IV fluids, and monitor). In addition, she was placed on an ICU monitor while in recovery from the surgery. She has received multiple antibiotics, both by injection and by mouth, and was sent home with additional antibiotics, as well as pain medications. Nana received her rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella vaccines and tested negative for heartworm and Lyme Disease. TOTAL COST: $750.00 DAISY - Daisy was already spayed, so that was not necessary and, because of that, there was no question of her having pyometra. Her abdomen is distended, and we will be following up with our own vet for tests for liver and kidney function. Daisy had a piece of rubber jammed in between two back molars (see picture below). They surgically removed the piece of rubber, as well as several totally decayed teeth. She will need a good cleaning of her teeth, and then we will need to evaluate with our own vet whether the remainder need to be removed. Daisy also had a mammary tumor removed - it will be sent out to be biopsied and we will let you know the results as soon as we have them. Daisy was on the table for three hours. Exploratory surgery was performed, as well as extensive oral surgery. She was given rabies, distemper/parvo and bordatella vaccines, and she was tested and found to be negative for heartworm and Lyme Disease. Daisy was sent home with several different antibiotics and pain medication. This poor girl is not in good shape :) She is scheduled to be seen again for a recheck next Wednesday. TOTAL COST: $1,180.00 JORDON - Jordon is a healthy guy! He was neutered, received all of his shots including rabies, distemper/parvo, and bordatella, and tested negative for both heartworm and Lyme Disease.
