#Ukraine News Alert #Russian occupation authorities raided #Crimean Tatar television channel ATR On January 26, Russian law enforcement authorities raided the premises of the Crimean Tatar TV channel ATR in Simferopol (the first and the only one Crimean Tatar channel). Armed and masked men in military clothing surrounded the building, detained the staff, searched the premises and confiscated the main computer server. The aim of such actions was to find information about protests near the Crimean Parliament dated 26 February, 2014. ATR Deputy Director Liliya Budzhurova underscored in a video statement that earlier the channel had provided all the information requested by the law enforcement authorities and its activities were always aimed at contributing to preservation and development of the language and culture of the Crimean Tatars. OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media Dunja Mijatović condemned the raid by masked forces on ATR television and reminded of the need to safeguard the work of journalists and media outlets. D.Mijatović stated that it was crucial for the Crimean Tatars to be able to receive information from ATR and its broadcasting must be resumed as soon as possible.
