‘Ultimate Warrior’ to rise next weekend 11/17/2013 Spartan Den is set to come alive next weekend when some of Barbados’ best fighters take on all comers. The Barbados Mixed Martial Arts Federation will be hosting an 11-bout card dubbed the “Ultimate Warrior” on November 23, which will see fighters from Cuba, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Martinique and Guadeloupe all hoping to crush their opposition at the Frederick Smith Secondary School. In the fourth event hosted by the federation for the year, six Barbadians will be holding down the fort in the action that gets under way at 6 p.m. on the night. The main event will see O’Neil Chase of the Regional Organisation for Combat Karate (ROCK) taking on Sylvain Gondet of Guadeloupe. Gondet is the 2013 West Indian Fighting Championship (WIFC) Welterweight Champion, while Chase boasts being the island’s Mixed Martial Arts Lightweight champion and Caribbean Fight League (CFL) Light-weight Champion. Gondet will not be alone as he will be bringing backup in the forms of Mike Menervile, Didier Caneval, Alexandre Blandin and 2013 CFL Middle-weight champ, David Rochemont. Also flying the flag for the home team will be Martial Arts Hall of Famer and current Middle Heavyweight champion, Corey Weithers. All fighting fans are expected to be out in their numbers as the action promises to be fast-paced and exciting. This event marks the last one put on this year by the federation, however, next on the schedule is a semi-professional event early in the new year.
