~~ Under the Feedbunk ~~ The best walk I take in the day is the one 1st thing in the morning to go plug in the Deere. If it is super cold that walk will be around 4 AM and the E horizon is generally not in its awakening. If it is just cold, then the walk may be from 5-6 bells. Then, the E horizon is beginning to show a little sign that the sun is making its way away from the Atlantic, coming ashore and beginning its journey to the midlands. I get a little glimpse of the suns coming from under the feedbunks. I love the silhouettes of the dark bunks against the reds and yellows and oranges of the suns face...all in the foreground of the blackish blues of the parting night. I always think, beautiful, so pretty. Of course I never have my camera with me. But today, the 1st day of what I hope is a good year, I decided to go back and get that camera out of bed and brave the damp, chilly S wind to catch the feedbunks welcoming the new day, the new year. In the stillness of it all are cowdogs running around doing their business. Im hiding behind the shed to shelter myself from the S wind. Im taking in the air and hear this occassional thump, thump, thump on my head. No clue what the thump is until I get back to moms, take off the cap and spot the thumper. It is the tags...yep, I had grabbed the rag that was draped over the cap, tied the rag on, grabbed the new grey cap and didnt realize I had not taken the tags off of it yet. So there ya go...the 1st day of the new year begins with a Hee Haw moment. Thats good...I like humor. Humor is happy, right? Cant beat humor. Makings sneaking around in the dark peering under the feedbunks more memorable. ~Happy 1st day to the new year! PS...you can get your own comfy wool railroad cap from Laura Taliaferro Pearson in Wyo. She in the creator of the womens version with the ponytail hole and she also has the mens caps. The Crown cap puts the Stormy Kromer to shame when it comes to quality, comfort, fit and sealing the wind out to keep your ears in a no draft zone.
