** Understanding Irish Justice - Part 12 ** Can anyone understand how basic mathematics work in relation to the Justice System in Ireland? For example, The creature in the Irish Independent piece (posted below) was sentenced to 18 years in prison for rape, with 5 years suspended (I do NOT agree with suspended sentences). That means he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. All agreed? He was sentenced in 2004. That would mean he would be in prison until 2017. All agreed? He was released in 2012. Now, this is weird. Even a pre-schooler will tell you that 2012 minus 2004 is 8 YEARS. So, this dangerous rapist is sentenced to 18 years in prison. He serves 8 years. Apart from the lunacy of the 5 suspended years, where did the OTHER 5 years go? More importantly, where is the JUSTICE for his victims? Seems the only REAL crime in Ireland is fiddling the tax on garlic. (This is beyond belief, and totally unacceptable.)
