*** Update - Please read *** Good morning friends. It seems the girls are just attracting drama these days. In the interest of not keeping their fabulous fans in the dark, we invite you to pour a cup of coffee and sit down for a nice long read. A few days ago we received messages and comments from a woman stating that she is the girls owner. She stated that Jeff - the gentleman in the homeless couple - was her ex and that he had stolen Emily from her when he moved from the Carolinas to Florida. She said that Emily was hers and Zoey was his but that she loved them both. There are a lot of other parts of this past story which includes accusations thrown from both sides. Substance abuse, fear tactics, inability to care for the dogs etc were thrown from all sides. We consider that irrelevant as our on concern is the future for the girls. When Em and Zoey found themselves at animal control last year, AC contacted the number on Zoeys microchip. The number was to a homeless shelter and they left a message. This young lady did return the call but did not come for the girls. In the early part of this year but prior to them leaving their homeless family, Emily found herself alone in another countys pound. The shelter called the number on the registry and left a message, but did not receive a return call. If not for the diligence and concern of Barb, Emily would have disappeared off the planet either by adoption or euthanasia. We tell you all this because this young lady, who is very nice by the way, is claiming ownership. We have explained to her how she lost legal ownership through the shelter system. This could happen to anyone if they lose their pet to the shelter system. If an animal is not claimed by the owner before the stray hold expires, ownership is lost and the pet can be rescued, adopted or euthanized. It was because of the time in AC that Matt and Barb became their legal owners. Registry was not as easy to change as one would think (we were actually happy to find out how much paperwork a microchip company requires), but by the city and all governing bodies, Matt and Barb are the owners. Despite her inaction during the girls incarceration, we invited her to go through the adoption process. We were actually a little excited because we thought this could be the home the girls were waiting for. We still require they have proper fencing, no cats, home visit, meet and greet etc. Emily and Zoey have dodged the bullet far too many times and we want to do everything we can to ensure their safety and to keep them out of the shelter system. Emily and Zoey are our sole focus and concern. Not too long ago their prior owners - Jeff and Kady - also contacted us about getting the girls back. We went through the same process with them and when they were unable to provide for the girls we said no. Actually we have had to turn down several interested parties due to either lack of proper containment, other animals in the home or for other reasons. Emily and Zoey deserve life long stability and security. This young lady is nice, but her friends and family have not been as kind. We have been threatened and harassed and have been sitting on the edge of closing the page down. We have asked her to speak to her friends and family but if you see anything, you now know the story. At this time we have not yet received information regarding their ability to properly care for the girls. Matt and Barb are the legal owners and they take their role as guardian seriously. While we believe her when she says she loves them, we cannot ignore the fact that she knew they were in animal control and not only did not come and get them, she did not call animal control back to see if they even made it out. If she is unable to be a good adopter for the girls, we cannot allow her to do so. This has not yet been determined at this point, but information from her and her ability to care has not been forthcoming in any way. We apologize for once again a long exhausting post. Your coffee may be cold by now. Our heads and hearts hurt and we truly hope we will not need to shut down this page. if we do so it will only be because we are continuing to be threatened and harassed. The safety of the girls and our own families must be held to the highest priority. While we have the page we will continue to keep you updated on discussions.
