#UttarakhandFocus Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of the Khatima & Mussorie Statehood Agitation in 1994 Thousands of selfless and simple Uttarakhandis struggled hard and repeatedly pressed their demand for the creation of a separate hill state. Their efforts finally bore fruits and on Nov 9, 2000 we became the 27th state of the Republic of India. The statehood movement or jan andolan was driven by idealism, sacrifice and bravery. The ones who led the movement belived that the creation of a new state would give results in the following 5P areas: 1. Paryavaran (Environment-Preserve) 2. Palayan (Migration-Reduce) 3. Paryatan (Tourism-Develop) 4. Pani (Water-Provide) 5. Pehchan (Identity-Create) Today is a sombre day to remember and reflect the ones who lost their lives in the brutal police shoot outs in Khatima and Mussorie in 1994. Today is a day to strengthen our resolve and to commit oursevles for the good of our state and its people. Today is a day to remind ourselves that the ideals on which the state was created remain unfulfilled. Today is a day to promise ourselves that we will do our bit to make our state better and stronger. This can be our only silent and true tribute to the victims and families/friends of the 1994 martyrs.
