****VAMPIRE KITTEN UPDATE!!! ELENA, RESCUED BY IAN SOMERHALDER OF THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, FINDS LOVE!**** (TWICE! A BESTIE, and a FOREVER HOME!) The four VAMPIRE KITTENS were tiny, sick, and terrified little black fuzzballs when Ian Somerhalder found them last spring, and delivered them to Furkids. They spent weeks in our medical holding area, being treated for a variety of ailments, and receiving lifesaving fluids. Their first exposure to humans had to be extremely traumatic for these little ferals... The Vamps developed a reputation at the shelter, for being intensely unpleasant to deal with...they were tough cookies.They hissed, spit, bit, and hid. It was Kitten Season, and our foster homes were full to the rafters...but, clearly, these babies needed WORK. SOMEONE would have to take THE VAMPS. A foster, who still wonders if she was brave, or just plain crazy, offered them a basement bedroom. Originally, they were corralled together in a playpen, so they couldnt hide, but they melted into a seething, raging, Mosh Pit of Kittens when they were together. The solution was four separate kitten playpens. They could see each other, but they couldnt huddle! Very long story short, they eventually graduated to the run of a bathroom; and pretty soon, they got to move into the Kitten Playroom, with other kittens their age. They learned to play, and begrudgingly, allowed human contact. They were hauled out at parties, to be passed around and get belly kisses. They were subjects in feral kitten training classes. THE VAMPIRES WORKED HARD to be social! And, thank goodness, they had the FURKIDS VILLAGE! ELENA recently found herself at Petsmart without her family - two siblings had been adopted, and her sis Caroline was at the shelter with some other kittens. ELENA, always a bit of a loner, let her guard down...and fell in love. LUCAS clearly adores her! And, we are excited to announce, the two lovebirds were adopted today, TOGETHER!
