#WA #Flood #News #CTCorp 11:45 AM Take action now for flooding in the Kimberley Saturday 17 January 2015 - 11:45 AM People in the Kimberley including the towns of Wyndham, Kalumburu, Cape Leveque Area and surrounds need to take action now as flooding is expected today and tomorrow. Water will be fast flowing and levels will rise quickly. WHAT TO DO: DFES advises you to: • Watch for changes in water levels so you are ready if you need to relocate. • Ensure your relocation kit, including your emergency kit is complete. • Relocate equipment and livestock so they do not get caught in floodwaters. • Prepare pet food or stockfeed in case you cannot return home for a few days. • Never walk, swim or play in floodwaters as they are dangerous. • Do not go near storm drains and pipes, ditches and ravines, as they are dangerous. • If you are a traveller do not park or camp adjacent to rivers. IF DRIVING: • Floodways and river levels may rise rapidly so be careful at crossings. • Obey road closure signs and do not drive into water of unknown depth and current. • Take care on gravel and unsealed roads as they may be slippery and muddy, and you could get bogged. • If your car stalls in rising water, abandon it immediately and seek shelter above floodwater. ROAD CLOSURES: No roads are closed. Road information may also be available by calling Main Roads WA on 138 138 or visiting mainroads.wa.gov.au FLOOD DETAILS: As at 10.51 am on Saturday 17 January the Bureau of Meteorology advises of a Flood Warning for the West Kimberley including Cape Leveque and the North Kimberley. A weak low lies over land east of Wyndham and is forecast to move west across the Kimberley over the weekend. The Isdell river at Dales Yard has risen overnight Friday. Significant stream rises with areas of flooding are expected to develop in the the Lennard, Isdell and Prince Regent River catchments in the West Kimberley including the Cape Leveque area during Saturday and into Sunday. For the 24 hours to 9am Sunday, widespread rainfall of 25mm to 50mm with isolated heavier falls of 120mm is forecast for the west Kimberley. Significant stream rises with areas of flooding are expected to develop in the King Edward River, Drysdale River, Pentecost River and lower areas of the Ord River catchment during Saturday and into Sunday. Heavy rainfall recorded for the 24 hours to 9am Saturday in the north Kimberley include 64mm at Kalumburu. For the 24 hours to 9am Sunday, wide spread rainfall of 25mm to 50mm with isolated heavier falls of 120mm is forecast for the north Kimberley.
