#WAIF25TBT WAIF is entering its 25th year of service for our homeless pet population. In the interest of not being left out with the recent social media tradition of Throwback Thursdays, every Thursday well share tidbits of the past with you to show how much youve helped WAIF evolve in support of pets and people. In 1990, WAIF was founded by Pamela Lock, Maxine Sauter, Cheryal Hertling, Donna Christensen, and Kellie Wallace. Initially the fundraising efforts for “Cover the Critters” morphed into WAIF. Its mission: To serve the Whidbey Island community with programs to benefit needy companion animals and to educate people to care for them with greater respect and compassion. WAIF enters into an agreement with Animal Control Officer Carol Barnes to work with her at the Whidbey Island Animal Shelter (WIAS) (current shelter in Coupeville; original section built in the late 1970’s) in providing care for dogs following their 5-day county-funded stay and for cats, which are not funded by the county. Any further funding came in the form of donations (big and small) from compassionate citizens concerned about the welfare of homeless pets. A logo is also created to help establish WAIFs mission in helping Whidbey Islands homeless pets.
