(WHY HER AND NOT HIM?) Can you put yourself in todays Scripture account as a person gathered at Mary and Marthas? We all have grieved for a loved one and can understand why some of the people were asking, Why can He heal others but not Lazarus? Have we not also asked similar questions when we know God has healed someone elses loved one but not our own? We experience feelings of jealousy, resentment, and even guilt. (John 11:37) Jesus knew the hearts of the crowd that day when He visited Mary and Martha. And He knows our grief when a loved one dies. Yet, Jesus knew what God had in mind for Lazarus, and that was for him to walk out of the tomb and show that Jesus had been sent by the Father. We can take comfort in knowing that Jesus weeps with us when we weep. We also trust that Jesus is always with us, forgiving us as we envy others for what He has given them. Yet, like Lazarus, we will hear our Lord call us out of our graves to join Him and all other believers when He returns. And on that day, we will rise from our graves and live with Him eternally.
