***WINTER IS COMING; TRICKY WEEKEND FORECAST*** Good evening - TopicsExpress

***WINTER IS COMING; TRICKY WEEKEND FORECAST*** Good evening everyone. After our quiet/mild spell weve had the past few days, things are about to take a change for the significantly cooler. A cold front is pushing into northern Mississippi as we speak and it will approach and cross our area tomorrow. There is a very slight chance of a shower (maybe 10% at best) but if any do develop they should be very light and short lived. The big news story with this front will be the cold air that filters in behind it. Highs tomorrow will climb one final time into the 60s across the region with scattered clouds, mainly in the afternoon. After the front passes winds will shift to the NW and cold air will begin to filter in. The coldest air with this outbreak looks to stay to our N/NW, but highs will still be relegated to the mid/upper-50s on Thursday, and only climb to the mid/upper-40s on Friday/Saturday. Lows will stay above freezing Thursday morning, but widespread 20s are looking increasingly likely Friday and Saturday mornings, and the first hard freeze of the season for areas outside the higher elevations, possibly even as far south as Lavonia->Gainesville->Canton. The tricky part of the forecast comes with significant model spread on Sunday as a gulf low gets rolling off the Louisiana Coast. High pressure will be wedged in from the east, and the possibility exists for a little wintry mischief early Sunday morning (most likely in the from of freezing rain) before a *changeover to a very cold rain* Sunday afternoon/night. In addition, some model runs have indicated temperatures plummeting after the precipitation ends which would cause some black ice problems as well. This is still 5 days away and PLENTY will change, but the possibility is there and I wanted you to know about it before any false maps start getting tossed around. Ill continue to monitor this potential VERY closely (winter forecasting is my favorite) and keep you updated. For now, though, just get out and enjoy one last day of warm temps before winter arrives.~TW
