**WINTER WEATHER UPDATE** Parts of I-20 in Abilene are covered in black ice and sleet. The interstate is open, but traffic is moving slowly. I-10 near exit 292 east of Fort Stockton is also seeing some slowdowns. Travel is still strongly discouraged in these areas. If you must drive, reduce your speed and follow these other tips: • Reduce speed. Speed limits are based on normal road and weather conditions, not winter road conditions. • Kepp three times the normal following distance on snow or ice. • Use extra caution on bridges, ramps, overpasses and shaded areas as they tend to freeze first • If you start to slide, ease off the gas pedal or brakes. Steer into the direction of the skid until you feel you have regained traction then straighten your vehicle. • Be aware of crews and slow moving equipment working on roadways and give them plenty of room.
