“We are here to help” The Kiribati High Commissioner to Fijii H.E Ms. Retata Rimon and the Kiribati Police Commissioner Mr Toeru Tokantetaake paid a courtesy visit to Fiji’s Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua this morning (10/09/13). The delegation was accorded a quarter guard ceremony before a two part presentation on the overview of the Fiji Police Force and the newly adopted “Duavata” Community Policing model was presented by Director Planning SSP Unaisi Vuniwaqa at Police Headquarters. In welcoming the delegation Brig-General Naivalurua said in line with Government’s mission of strengthening relations with international partners, equally important were our regional neighbours and this morning’s visit will pave the way in as far as realizing the full potential of such partnerships. “Your excellency on behalf of the Fiji Government we here at the Fiji Police are indeed grateful for this window of opportunity to meet and hold bilateral talks and identify opportunities for assistance”. “Policing our region successfully can only be achieved by working together on a Governmental and Organizational level which is why the Fijian Government strongly values our current international and regional partnerships and is continuously looking to grow beyond our traditional borders and partners”. The Commissioner of Police today informed H.E the High Commissioner and his Kiribati counterpart of the opportunities for assistance available from the Fiji Police. These include; • Secondment • Specialised Training & Attachment • Cadet Scheme • Trainers • Peace keeping training An offer for a similar program currently conducted with the Solomon Police Force has also been extended to the Kiribati Commissioner of Police. “I understand some of your officers are currently pursuing their studies at various tertiary institutions here in Fiji and we would be more than happy to have them on secondment with us in areas you would deem necessary to suit the needs of your Force”. In addressing the Commissioner of Police and senior officers, Kiribati High Commissioner to Fiji H.E Ms Retata Rimon was appreciative of the continuous support shown by Government in strengthening relations with their regional neighbours. “Fiji is the most progressive nation in the Pacific and we are very fortunate that the Fiji Government continues to offer assistance to their small island nation”. “We have much to gain from the expertise and knowledge the Fiji Police will offer us and we are looking forward to realizing the full potential of this new partnership”.
