**We have been asked to share the following information from Scott at H&R Block Gordon, NE** TAX Questions and Answers for this year I have been fielding a lot of questions about the Obamacare or Affordable Care Act (ACA). Its the new law that requires all of us to have insurance or pay a penalty. If you and your family are REGISTERED TRIBAL MEMBERS you are EXEMPT. There are 2 ways to do this. 1. earlier this last year you filed the exempt paperwork through IHS or online on healthcare.gov ( bring what they mailed back to you with you to file) 2. If you didnt do it at IHS or on Healthcare.gov its perfectly okay you will still be exempt. My taxpros at the Hr Block here will file for the exemption for you on the tax return. its really simple and doesnt require them to bring in any kind of proof like registration paperwork or Tribal U#s. the client simply tells my staff they and their family are registered tribal members and they will then be exempt. There is a corresponding form that gets filed with the tax return but the client just shows up for their appointment or is a walk-in tax return as usual. we will take care of the rest. Also, I have been fielding a lot of phone calls about clients worried that they wont receive their tax refunds till October. This is false, the Efile date ( when the IRS accepts all of the nations tax returns) is Jan 20th 2015. After this date the American public will start to get their refunds. Of course the IRS says it can take 2-3 weeks, but it is NOT October. It specifically says on IRS.gov that this isnt true. FOr the most part people will receive their refunds as quick or quicker than last year.
