....We have to start thinking about the group as well. You need think not only about what are your own needs, but what is the common good? I loved this so much, especially since my research interests are similar with hers. I thought this TED talk to be very interesting how she connected political and social ideologies into architecture and urban city infrastructure in what she calls collective individuality. The concept of society being viewed as a collection of individuals doesnt equate to a functional space that in which everyone benefits within the structures, spaces and environments theyre in. She refers a lot to post-socialist and future cities and suggests that a well balanced city is one that puts just as much emphasis on the individual and their relationship to a community. As a mean to an end, the public realm that she envisions is one that individuality is not forgotten and privacy is not invaded, but the sense of social capital is something that is of value and a norm that suffices as a mean to a common goal.
