“We will be actively mentoring a cohort of STEM students in order to contribute to the critical science and engineering needs of our nation that is absolutely essential to our economic growth and national security,” Cornelius said. “We are really excited to see this funded.” Chris Cornelius (Oneida), a chemical engineer from Virginia Polytechnic University, and chemical engineering professor and associate dean for research at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln’s College of Engineering, is one of four prominent Native academics who will help mentor science, technology, engineering and math students through a newly funded program of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society.
