. . . . . . . . . What does the bible teach about Life and Death? The beginning of life can probably be better understood by identifying exactly what death is. The bible has some specifics concerning both life and death and teaches that GOD is the giver of all life. Here are some verses for your consideration: Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: That verse shows us the finality of life. There is no return; no do-over, no second chance; there is no reincarnation, we will never pass this way again. The book of James teaches us: Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. That verse shows us exactly what death is. “The body without the spirit is dead”. The body with the spirit equals life; and the separation of the spirit from the body equals death. We die when the spirit leaves the body. Therefore, life begins when GOD formed body and spirit together, and ends when our spirit leaves the body. Did you know our spirit was with GOD and known of GOD before we were conceived? GOD told Jeremiah: Jer 1:4 Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jer 1:5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations. The Psalmist also spoke of the unborn being a work of GOD: Psa 139:13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mothers womb. Psa 139:14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. Psa 139:15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. The next verse shows us that GOD knew us in our mother’s womb before there was a recognizable body. Psa 139:16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. When this life is over and it is our time to depart this world we have this following verse to teach us what to expect. Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it. We were known of GOD before conception; HE gave us our body and knew us as a person before we had a recognizable form, HE watched as we developed in our mother’s womb; HE knows everything we think, say, or do in this life; when we die our spirit returns to GOD who gave it; and we will be judged according to the life we lived.
