What literary rejection looks like...... My query….. What if your innermost thoughts were not always your own; your stream of consciousness hijacked by a merciless assassin with a vendetta? Tennessee Muffcat once sat at the helm of a prosperous fashion startup in NYC, where she lived luxuriously in a lavish downtown penthouse with the husband and young son she adored. 9-11 changed everything. The terrorist attacks rendered her an instant grieving widow, and left her grappling with the voices in her head, the desperate and bewildered voices of those who’d lost their lives when the planes struck. Struggling to maintain her tenuous sanity, Muffcat, her son in town, fled back to the security and safety of her small, quirky Tennessee hometown, where she went to work at the family’s funeral home. Peace rapidly proves elusive. While trying to keep busy, raise her boy, and prepare the bodies of local figures for their funerals, Muffcat finds herself hijacked by a new voice; this one terrifying and evil. Though this party girl prides herself on being able to knock them back with the best of them, Muffcat can’t find a drink stiff enough to dilute the intruder in her head. If she doesn’t decipher what the flashes of brutality and violence are trying to tell her, she might just become the next victim of this sadistic and deranged serial killer. What she doesn’t count on is being caught up with law enforcement; they need her help, but don’t, at first, take her seriously. The Sleuthing Adventures of Tennessee Muffcat Mankser Presents: The Voices is the first in a series which blends the dramatic thriller genre with irreverent laughs-out-loud and elements of the paranormal; I am currently working on Book 2. I spent twenty-years in corporate America, consulting for Fortune 500 companies. I left behind the mind-numbing policy, procedure manual, and speech writing to pursue my passion for fiction. After the sudden deaths of my father and sister-in-law, I blogged for a year about coping and the bereavement process, and then started posting short stories about being raised in the South and the Southern kitchen. (Please visit my blog page, tennesseemuffcat.wordpress/, or connect with me on Facebook under my given name, Leslie Anne Garrett-Stephens). I have a large and ever-increasing fan-base of supportive readers. The Sleuthing Adventures of Tennessee Muffcat Mansker Presents: The Voices (94,000 words) has been professionally edited and is complete. The first three chapters are below. I can gladly send a full manuscript for your consideration upon request. Sincerely, L.A. Stephens My rejections…… Dear Ms. Stephens, Thanks for writing about your novel.
