“When I was growing up my family enjoyed many days at the beach, but I always feared being caught in a rip tide. The ocean would pull me out and once I was finally back on shore another mammoth wave would crash on me. I remember I kept getting knocked down over and over again. After some time doing this I would find my strength gone. I was left with a hopeless and helpless feeling. I could see no way out. Is it not the same in life? The waves of the world crash upon us so often we are left feeling helpless and weak. It is in these moments we must realize His strength is absent. How can we know that? Because that happens when our faith is wanting. And just as I would cry out for my dad as I laid on the shore when I had no strength left, in desperation we too bow our knees and cry out for the help of our Father, asking Him to rescue us and restore our faith and trust in Him. And what is God’s response to our cries? He acts on our behalf abundantly for He longs to hear the cries of His people saying, I need You! Strength comes from understanding the love of Christ. This is why God has placed the dwelling of Jesus Christ in our hearts, because it is in our hearts that we learn of the unfathomable love of Christ. And from this, we derive all we need to live for His glory every day. Without the strength of Christ, we look at His love like a toddler would look at the periodic table of elements, we just don’t get it! But with the love of Christ in our hearts, we are able to comprehend something mind blowing, the purpose of His love. It is this: Christ passionately desires that we are filled with the fullness of God! As we understand the depth of His love for us, He continues to give us His strength by filling us with more and more of Himself. The same one that parted the Red Sea, the Creator of all there is, the healer of our bodies and souls, the Savior, the one with all grace, love and joy seeks to take ALL of Himself and fill ALL of us. Just as I grew older and understood how to navigate the rip tides so as to never be stuck again, so can we navigate every course of life in His strength with His love.” John Cox
