When bad seeds are sown within the family, we must be sure to reap the same kind as fruits. Family Seeds Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 13, 14; Matthew 24 Scripture: ‘‘But when King David heard of these, he was very wroth. And Absalom spake unto his brother neither good nor bad: for Absalom hated Amnon, because he had forced his sister Tamar.’’ 2 Samuel 13:21 – 22 Observation: God through Prophet Nathan had just reprimanded King David for his actions regarding Uriah and Bathshebah. Now Amnon, one of King David’s sons rape Tamar a sister through deception. This marked the beginning of family crises against the backdrop of Nathan’s message to David in view of his illicit affair and eventual death of her husband in the hands of King David. The wrong seed sown by David was now gradually taking root in his home with Absalom showing deep hatred towards Amnon. Application: A bad tree never produces good fruits. When bad seeds are sown within the family, we must be sure to reap the same kind as fruits. King David set the stage, though he repented, the consequences were beginning to manifest. The seeds we sow determine the kind of home we raise. May we sow right to raise good homes. Prayer: What kind of seeds are you sowing in your home? Examine your home and prayerfully ask God to direct you in raising your home.
