It is so simple and so congruent with our experience. And at the same time, so convicting because we know that, left to ourselves, we fail to measure up. There was a large persimmon tree near my boyhood home. It produced lots of fruit, but no one wanted it. Sometimes I feel like that persimmon tree. Im doing lots of spiritual stuff, lots of activities, but are they really the things that God wants from me? Is my heart right? Id like to be producing apples or oranges for Him, but instead, Im thinking Im a persimmon tree, and the fruit just isnt very useful or desirable. Real, internal change - heart change - takes time. Its difficult work. We start with a confession, I need Your help. Then, as we sense His incredible love for us (despite who we are) and see His hand begin to work in our lives, we can see the fruit we bear become beautiful and desirable. Take time to search your heart, and give Him time and space to develop you into that magnificent fruit tree that He desires.
