Why is this dog sitting at MANHATTAN CENTER, NY waiting to be KILLED when there were 600 dogs transported into NJ this last weekend alone, thats not including the many trips from northern rescues on a weekly basis? Where are the rescues here? A volunteer writes: I was so impressed, reading all the wonderful comments Elvis owner made about his dog he had to surrender as his new roommates did not want him around…Elvis reminds me of my elderly Chihuahua, my faithful companion I adopted from the Manhattan Care Center at the age of 10, also the victim of an abusive situation. His master was everything to Elvis, G-- descended on earth, the source of everything GOOD….., the person to adore, serve, deliver to, make happy….And now, at 13 years of age, a world of strangers and a kennel…when he slept at night with his owner…No wonder that Elvis showed his teeth when he first arrived at the care center. Wise, resigned or both , Elvis has quickly changed gears. He might still be at the back of his den but he comes when called and is leashed effortless. He accepts caresses and is fine being helped on the bench for lap time. He walks very nicely at my pace, eliminates in one stop and meets other little dogs very peacefully. Elvis did live in harmony with cats and other dogs at some point. He would know so many commands and enjoyed all the pampering rituals posh pets like to have(bathing, brushing..) He would not be fond of children and would be wary of strangers, if not slowly introduced. Elvis just amazes me, his history and the fact that at his age, he is able to adjust…A tail of courage and survival…Should that be in vain, for nothing? Elvis is still in a very good shape for his age , well groomed, active and upbeat. If you are looking for a deserving, playful and faithful doggy friend, Elvis is ready for you and waiting patiently at the Manhattan Care Center.
