~ Willingness leads to Effective Thinking ~ In so many cases our “reactions” to life are flipped in a reverse fashion from what is effective. What is effective seems to be the opposite from what we choose to practice. A good example of this is the idea “Less is more.” Often when we are ineffective in our life, we wind up adding intensity and doing even more of what is ineffective. In other words rather than allow the fire to simmer we add fuel to it. Many of our reactive responses are actually counter intuitive to flow. We humans are funny that way. A great teaching of intuitive Nature and the flow with life is the Tao De Ching. A wonderful translation is by Stephen Mitchell. In Verse 69 it is written, “When two great forces oppose each other, the victory will go to the one that knows how to yield.” We want to think that action is our best defense, though we won’t learn acceptance through defensiveness. And acceptance is our primary target before “Right Action” or effectiveness can ensue. This is what I speak of as “The Pause.” Though, even before The Pause, there is a very essential element. It is the Willingness for “Right Action” or effectiveness. This is what is most beneficial to cultivate; Our Willingness for growth, our Willingness for nonresistance and Our Willingness for Love. We create an opening for the greatest force in the universe to work through us, when we cultivate our Willingness. When we are so busy “doing”, we haven’t time for deep reflection on our will. To utilize our power of will is not to “do” but to see. To operate in alignment with this Source is to stop micro managing every little detail in life. In The Tao’s verse, one can honestly observe the manic phase of attack while remaining untouched. This is true empowerment. We have peace because we are peaceful. And then “Our will be done.” One my favorite phrases in A Course in Miracles reads, “The Truth in you remains when as radiant as a star, as pure as light, as innocent as Love itself. And you are worthy that you’re will be done.” This is the ultimate in knowing. This is where true security lies, in The Undefended. The practice of a lifetime is all that is required to undo. It is no small task, though the reward is freedom. If one would look at all “Desire” one would see that all desire is a movement towards freedom? A lifetime of practice can be undone in one moment. In just this moment all change is possible. It is the minds infatuation with the future that relieves us of our will. In teaching the principles of presence, willingness, and acceptance ‘The Course’ goes on to say “The miracle of the holy instant lies in your willingness to let it be what it is. And in your Willingness for this lies also your acceptance of yourself as you were meant to be.” It is a beautiful proverb, and more truth, scarcely written. Let this moment be The Moment we undo the attack on ourselves and others. Let this be the change that change is for. Let our truth in Love extend into our lives, and create real purpose to our walk. It is an exciting time to witness; the homecoming of our hearts combined with the power of our actions. Is there anything more valuable than freedom? Today let us cultivate collectively our willingness to Love. What a world we will create; the end of fear, with no more need of protection, just one instant at a time. Begin with the acceptance of will. See it, play with it, and go deeper into it. Become a tracker, tracing the trail back to the depths of life itself. Life began because there was a will for life. The depths are not complicated only the shallows of our reactions complicate the process. Find The Willingness, and you will find the connection with all life. The I Am that is One. As I write I think of John Lennon, and the vision in his words Imagine “You may say Im a dreamer But Im not the only one. I hope someday youll join us and the world will be as one.” This is in a common vision we all hold of peace; The Will to Love.
