“With all due respect, my brother-priests, I do not see the need - TopicsExpress

“With all due respect, my brother-priests, I do not see the need for saying ‘good morning’ and similar greetings when God’s real presence in the Holy Eucharist alone suffices.” Ive been reading this and thinking over it, and I feel the good Cardinal Tagle brings up an important detail that we often overlook. It seems so benign and so harmless, but we dont realise that the mere saying of good morning subconsciously affects the atmosphere at Mass. Phrases like good morning or good evening during Mass inadvertently diverts the focus of Mass away from God and onto another. It disrupts the solemn atmosphere of prayer and reduces it to nothing more than a casual gathering. Many people do not realise that we are in Mass not to socialise and sing nice songs with one another, but to worship God with all our heart and mind. After all, Mass is the highest form of worship owed to God. The focus should never be about us or our tastes, but giving to God all the glory that He deserves. We do not greet one another because we are not the focus here - we are here to welcome God, and we in turn implore Him to welcome us into His divine love. We can greet each other after or even before Mass, but at least for that one hour of Mass, let us devote all our attention to God, and stand before Him as one would before the Emperor of Creation. :D
