(With due respect to this pages administrator(s), please allow me to post this announcement. Thank you!) FACINE/21 bestows its GINTONG ANI AWARD to Mr. Raymond Red, for his exemplary work as independent filmmaker, his persistence of vision and steadfast commitment to the growth and development of Filipino independent cinema. Long considered as one of the leading figures of the first surge of Philippine independent film, Mr. Red started making films in his teens with experimental, highly expressionist short films in both Super-8 and 16 mm films, in the 1980s; subsequently forayed into full-length historical features in the 1990s with BAYANI and SAKAY. In 2000, his short film, a social realist drama, ANINO/Shadows, was awarded the Camera Dor at the Cannes Film Festival, making it the first Filipino film given major film honors in a top-tier foreign film festival. Later, his full-length film, HIMPAPAWID/Manila Skies, had limited US release in 2012. His latest, KAMERA OBSKURA, won him Best Director at Cinemalaya festival - a film within a film, his homage to cinema in its purest, the silent film, may as well encapsulate his vision as compleat artist. FACINE/21 will present two programs of his works, representing two stylistic strands, on the following days and times. Friday, December 12, 9 pm: Awarding of GINTONG ANI TO RAYMOND RED and followed by special screenings of HIMPAPAWID/Manila Skies to be preceded by ANINO/Shadows Saturday, December 13, 7 pm: US Premiere of KAMERA OBSKURA to be preceded by his first-honored short film, ANG MAGPAKAILANMAN/The eternity FACINE/21:the 21st annual Filipino international cine festival runs December 11-13 at the Roxie Theater, 3117 - 16th Street, San Francisco.
