****Wonder Fans Jumping the Gun in 2014?**** After Friday nights loss at Weddington I hear many Wonder fans beginning to throw in the towel on the 2014 Wonders when theres so much football left to be played. Lets go back a few years in the Ron Massey era when the Wonders started slow, but finished strong. So how would an 0-2 start sit with Wonder fans today? Well, it happened in 2001 when the Wonders lost back to back games with North Rowan and Eastern Randolph. How about 2002 when the Wonders lost back to back games with Eastern Randolph and South Point? or how about 2003 when the Wonders lost to South Rowan and Eastern Randolph? See, this is not something that is unusual for us and we cant say we havent been there done that. The question is how do we as a fanbase respond? Better yet, how should we respond!!!! Do we act like fair weathered fans and throw in the towel at the first signs of trouble? or do we stay the course and throw our support behind our team instead of acting like whiny children who are going to pick up their toys and go home. If that is the kind of fan and supporter you are then dont let the good door hit you where the good lord split you!!! We dont need you. I unlike some remember a time when we were lucky to win two or three games in a season, but we still stood in there and threw our support behind our team. This constant bashing of coaches and players has to stop. Its counter productive and whats more I will not tolerate it on this page. There are forums on other high school web pages where the venom runs long and deep. I suggest you go there if you want to engage in that kind of activity. I stood behind Lope Linder through a losing season in 1975, I stood behind Bob Boswell through two losing seasons in 1976 and 1977. In other words I stood by my team win or lose. Many of you sitting in the stands today have no clue what Im talking about. All youve known is the good days. You never knew what it was like to be part of a losing effort and until you do its my opinion that you are unable to appreciate what you have. These are kids out there who are just beginning to learn this game and some are able to handle the pressures and some are not. That doesnt make them a bad kid or a bad player. They just havent progressed enough. So dont get angry and stop supporting FIK because I delete your views and opinions which I deem are counter productive to our team. Our guys dont need to hear it. I dont condone it nor do I support it. I have my opinions just as many of you do, but I also know there is a time and place to share it. Most of you share it loud and clear from the stands and believe me if I can hear it, our players can hear it too, and how do you think an impressionable kid is going to respond hearing such venom coming out of the mouths of those who are suppose to be supporting them? Its up to the coaches to put our team in the best position to win games and its up to our players to execute the game plan. Like Bruce Hardin said so many times before Its a players game not a coaches game nor is it a fans game. With that in mind I hope all of you will re examine yourselves and how you support our team.
