#WorshipWednesday As we continue to turn back the hands of the Worship Recordings sun dial, production duo Rocket are on deck for this Worship Wednesday with their track “Stand Dub”. Rocket is the combination of DJ/producers Garth Jones (DJ Garth) and Eric James of E.T.I. DJ Garth, who originally hails from England, is responsible for being one of the main catalysts to propel the rave scene forward in San Francisco during the early 90s. “Stand Dub” was released on the label back in1999 and can be found on the Standby EP (WOR.5). Standby EP was released on Worship as a trade between Garth and label head Rob Paine. In an even barter, Paine sent Garth his “Never Can Say Goodbye” EP (Grayhound Recodings) in exchange for Rocket’s Standby EP. Before your ears indulge on the tripped out sound of “Stand Dub”, lets take a look at Garth’s enigmatic history. Garth and his bass hungry heathens were responsible for the legendary Wicked parties out on the west coast of California. These parties would go onto to solidify and inspire the rave culture in San Francisco way before huge L.E.D screens and DJs hurling cakes into the crowd. The Wicked parties reflected the hedonistic values of the 60s counter-culture, as partygoers found themselves dancing under the cosmic rays of a full moon. The Wicked crew would engrave themselves into rave history with being the first to bring a sound system and DJ to the now internationally recognized Burning Man Festival. The Wicked parties, which spanned from 1991 to 2004, would give way to Wicked Records in 1996. Garth’s first release on the label would be one of house music greatness with his collaboration with E.T.I for “20 Minutes of Disco Glory.” Peep it here ( bit.ly/11gpz52 ) During the inception year of Worship Recordings back in 1998 ,Garth eventually moved to form his own label with Grayhound Recordings. Garth reports that the name of the label is dedicated to the bus that the Wicked crew would tour in during their glory days. Worship Recordings looks to Garth and his productions not just as an inspiration to Philly DJ culture, but as an integral part of the Philadelphia house music sound. “Stand Dub” is straight chilled out west coast vibes with mellowing bass line and sunset inspired samples.
