(YOU NEED PATIENCE TO READ THIS) Apart form the normal events unfolding on the wall, I think the environment is now favorable to share something within our circles – Gor Mahia. Well, my observations or words are not in any way intended to evoke icy reaction from any quarter or anyone but just to advice on how well we should handle some issues. DERBY REACTIONS – I walked into the dressing room after the match on Sunday and there was a loud ‘silence’ with players wearing very sad faces and I thought it was coz of the match results but later, I realized there was something underneath like was confirmed by coach Bobby Williamson. What was that? – read on. It was quite unfortunate that maximum points were smoked off in the last 10 minutes and may be, a hard one it was to swallow considering the manner in which the points slipped. There were accusations and many fingers were pointing at one figure – Jerry Onyango. Well, I know football is an emotional sport that can get the better side of human beings more so to those who hold it so dear and close to their hearts but I’d rather we don’t let our emotions drive us all the times. The amount of lewd words that flooded social media were way beyond anyone’s imagination. One would think Jerry killed the entire team and so there is no more Gor Mahia. Not to mean he didn’t make any mistake but how well can we lift our heroes when they ‘slip’. Or do we want to assume that we are so perfect that no one can further perfect what we do? The same player we are dismissing is the same player who have lifted Gor countless times and have made us walk shoulders high even at a time Gor would have been beaten like rats. Like any other human being, he can have a low day. What if you are given your preferred player and he makes a mistake again? You call for another one. What if the new one makes mistake again? At times, what we say or post about players do have great effects in their way of doing things and considering these are our players who need our support to offer their best, I’d rather we encourage them and if is to criticize, let it be positive criticism that will help them not matusi and harassing that only downs their morale level. It was so sad to see Jerry being escorted to the dressing just because fans wanted to beat him – very sad indeed. How can players offer their best in such an environment? As you go about your daily business with Gor in mind, forget about the big name that Gor has, the rich history on the walls about Gor and the large fan base Gor has but have one thing in mind – We have a very fragile team surrounded with tides of problems and all is needs is your undivided support not the kind rebuke and blame games that was witnessed. Had it not been for the sacrifices players do make, focus, dedication and discipline our players have plus the good support from a section of fans, Gor Mahia would have not be at the summit as we speak. And dont you think we are so near to retain the league yet our actions can make us to be far from that title? I leave you with words from coach and a few players: “Let fans understand us well. We need their support as a team and when one of us make a mistake, there are better ways to correct him not the kind of cruel treatment some of us are being subjected to”. – Bobby Wiliamson. “Maze bol ni ngumu and every team is as good as we may think we are. If our efforts can give us a win, we will thank God and if its not our day, we will live to fight another day. So, all we need is just full support sio kupigwa na matusi.” Player 1. “Mafans wanafaa kuelewa players poa. Ni kujitolea na kujituma despite hizi mashida zote. Kuna fear na players wakiwa hivyo, tension itaingia kwa team hata game rahisi tutashindwa kucheza. Kama players wengine wanakosa hata fare wanaamka 5am kutembea to training then fans wengine wanawauwa morale, sio poa. We need them and they need us too.” Player 2. Kama kapi ndio anafanywa hivyo na yeye ndio ametoka na Gor mbali, Sasa sisi tutafanywaje? Hii hata heri msee asipewe game ndio lawama isiwe kwake. Tuko ready kudeliver like weve done na tunaomba mafans watuchunge sio kutuogopesha Player 3. By Tony Anelka 30th /JULY/ 2014
