Yorktown found overwhelming opposition Tuesday to a $1,4 million - TopicsExpress

Yorktown found overwhelming opposition Tuesday to a $1,4 million trail along a mile of busy River Road that dead ends at either end. More than 50 people, mostly property owners who have to give up trees and land, attended a public hearing on the trail project, given federal money is involved. The Indiana Department of Transportation will take comments until Sept. 24 on the project that local government intends to do despite property owner objections. The project began a few years ago at a cost almost half the current price tag, The south side of River Road was the final choice after other utility and property issues came up putting it along the river or the north side of the road. Even David Carnes, an attorney and deacon at Grace Baptist Church raised concerns about public safety and the fact that the trail does not connect with others. Town Manager Pete Olson indicated more trails were planned by Muncie and Yorktown to connect the River Road trail. However, local government and their consultants never justified the excessive cost of one mile of trail. Keep watching for updates on this latest Yorktown development.
