“You don’t get to hold the entire economy, the entire country, hostage, because you don’t like the outcome of the election,” Warren said. The Affordable Care Act was passed by both houses of Congress, signed into law by President Obama, was given public endorsement by President Obama’s resounding electoral victory in 2012, and was upheld by the US Supreme Court. Every branch of the government has spoken, as have the American people. Despite this, a dangerous and menacing wing of the Republican Party has managed to run roughshod over a weak and ineffective Speaker John Boehner, bringing the US Government to a grinding halt. As a result, 800,000 federal employees will be placed on furlough and one million will be asked to work for no pay. This is the price the Tea Party believes is acceptable for the country to pay to appease their fundamentalist opposition to government help for the most vulnerable Americans.
