“You feed them,” Jesus said. They said, “We couldn’t scrape up more than five loaves of bread and a couple of fish—unless, of course, you want us to go to town ourselves and buy food for everybody.” (There were more than five thousand people in the crowd) (Luke 9:13-14 MSG) Gods economy is worth taking a look at. Here it is, the end of the day, a hungry crowd, small provisions, and what seemed like only a couple of choices. And then God does what he is so good at doing, God opens wide the box of our imagination and says, trust me. People for centuries have been trying to figure out how Jesus took five loaves, two fish, fed more than 5000 people, and took up leftovers! It really is something that is beyond explanation. So maybe explaining this miracle isnt the point. Maybe the point is that Jesus saw a need, took what provisions he was given, offered them in blessing, and the rest is is history. I know that right now Jesus is doing the same thing in my life. I have a need, my provisions are so very small, I give them to God, and I have more leftover. Some days Im not sure my loaves and fish are up to the task, but in reading this passage again, I am filled with hope. Its really not what I do with what I have, but what God does with those same items. Oh how truly blessed I am! Lord, thank you for the miracles you continually do each day in our lives. Today, be with those who feel as though their provisions are inadequate to the tasks ahead. I especially pray for loved ones who are dealing with life threatening illnesses. Be their healer and their strength.
