~ ‘You must be missing your daughter a lot’, my neighbours - TopicsExpress

~ ‘You must be missing your daughter a lot’, my neighbours said. ‘I have asked her to Skype you every night’, her father tried consoling me, after she left. My friends, cousins and everyone else started calling me, just to make me feel good, I understood. Honestly speaking, all these made me feel very guilty secretly because I don’t know why, I wasn’t missing Inga, like I was supposed to. How I used to cry at the lunch table after Babu had left, I remembered and was surprised at my new change and composure. I wasn’t worrying much, enjoying life and was in fact, doing pretty well. But all that was till yesterday. Things suddenly changed when I took my sixteen year old niece for Puja shopping last afternoon. I stepped into the familiar Mall and was enjoying being among so many happy faces. What happened then I don’t know, the moment I stepped into the women’s section of our favourite clothes stores, one look at those dresses on the racks and I felt a sharp twitch on my heart. My head started reeling and my vision went blurred. In front of every shelf and rack I could see only Inga standing, her hands overflowing with dresses in all colours. ‘Mamma, am buying all these and you aren’t saying a No’, she yelled. For the first time, in two weeks, I started to miss her. Yes, I miss being commanded and shouted at. That mock fight and resistance I liked putting up, that joy in surrendering to her says, those are the things that I miss the most. Life otherwise has remained the same. ~
