“Your Kingdom come, my kingdom go” Jesus was rejected - TopicsExpress

“Your Kingdom come, my kingdom go” Jesus was rejected because he didn’t fit into people’s plans. As Peter writes, “The stone the builders rejected has now become the capstone” (1 Peter 2:7). But sympathize for a moment with the ones who rejected Christ. The Israelites had been called to be God’s people, and they followed him through persecution, and suffering, finally to the inheritance God had promised them. Everything they did was to bring glory to God, and so they worked diligently to build this Kingdom here on earth. As they were building, along came Jesus. He was different from the savior they thought he would be, and so he was rejected, and thrown away. Despite their good intentions, their misinterpretation of the Kingdom of God did away with the man who was the full expression of God Himself. Why couldn’t they see who Jesus was? It is because they were too focused on their own idea of what the Kingdom of God looked like that they missed its greatest jewel. It is easy to see their mistake in hindsight, but the same principle applies to us today. Before we say to God, “Your Kingdom come” we must be able to say, “My kingdom go” and live our lives under the authority of Christ so that we don’t miss the beautiful Kingdom work that God is doing all around us. In what ways might you be rejecting Jesus in your life because he hasn’t been fitting into your plans or perspective on life? Today, invite Him to reorient the way you see the world to His perspective instead of yours. [A Public Witness, 9.28.14]
