“You’ve Got Skills” I just got back from Williamsburg, VA - TopicsExpress

“You’ve Got Skills” I just got back from Williamsburg, VA with my family and really enjoyed learning the history of the cities there, and especially found it interesting when going around Jamestown. When we got there the National Parks officer informed us to take a look at the names and occupations of the people that first settled in Jamestown, and then that would give you an idea as to why Jamestown didn’t make it. Another issue might have been that they were surrounded by salt water (the James River has salt water in it all the way to Richmond, VA). The occupations of these men were men of wealth, politicians, bankers, business men. There weren’t any men that knew about agriculture and how to grow food. They starved at Jamestown, and resorted to eating horse, cats, rats, and even cannibalism. I couldn’t imagine what the people were going through as they tried to settle in a new country. As I read my Bible study this morning, I came across these verses in Exodus, “and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with skill, ability and knowledge in all kinds of crafts – to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver, and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood, and to engage in all kinds of craftsmanship. Moreover, I have appointed Oholiab son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to help him. Also I have given skill to all the craftsmen to make everything I commanded you.” Exodus 31:3-6 The entire time I was reading Exodus, I was wondering if Moses ever felt overwhelmed. He was given all of these instructions by God, and he was thinking if God Almighty is telling me to do all these things, and giving me these specific instructions, He will provide a way. But, I can assure you, Moses breathed a sigh of relief when he heard God say that he has provided men with “skills” to help him complete the task at hand. This reminds me of the modern day church, and how we are all given gifts from God, and we should be using them to advance His kingdom. Just like the men back in Exodus, we all have a gift that is waiting to be used by God. Pray today that God reveals your “skills”, or if He has revealed them, pray that God provides a place for your “skills” to be put to use in your local church. Our “skills” are often a way that we can witness to others and show Jesus to them without even saying a word. Have a great day, Facebook Friends, Missed you guys!
