(Zaman Al Wasl)- Free Syrian Army founder, Riad al-Asaad, refused to meet former head of Syrias main political opposition who wanted to brief rebels by the outcomes of his recent visit to Russia, sources said. Moaz al-Khatib, the former head of the National Coalition, who met Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and other Russian officials early November, has visited number of senior Syrian army defectors in their Turkish camp in border Hatay province. Al-Khatib told the FSA officers that he had discussed ways to end the conflict with Moscow, assuring that he had insisted that Bashar al-Assad must go. Sources did not reveal to Zaman al-Wasl why the FSA founder boycotted al-Khatib’s meeting, and whether Russians have sent a message to moderate rebels to reach a solution for Syrian conflict or not, especially that peace talks initiatives revived again after last Saudi-Russian meeting last week. Al-Khatib, a former imam of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus, stepped down in March 2013 after only four months at the head of the coalition, which is backed by Western and Gulf states. His resignation came after the coalition berated him for offering Assad a negotiated exit and after the group went ahead with steps to form a provisional government that would have further diminished his authority. The opposition coalition has little influence over insurgents fighting to overthrow Assad in a conflict that has been complicated by the success of rival hardline Islamist groups. https://zamanalwsl.net/en/news/7666.html
