(a) M. D. As someone who was taught to look ahead and keep moving forward because the future was always in view, I pause briefly to look back and marvel at the most amazing being I know. How is it that I came to meet this person at a point where neither numbers nor time can measure our initial connection? What was it about me that that made the Almighty select me to be paired with this person? Is this really a question that requires further analysis? Doubtful. What is and will always remain the most critical aspect of our pairing is that it is everlasting and unchangeable. So who is this “Monarch of Divinity” whom I have observed her as an elevated presence? Elevated not because I have placed her on a pedestal, she is elevated because she knew where to place me to be safe in her care, at the crux of her foot. It was as if I was a Liliputian in a tale where a being of her stature was equivalent to those who lived in their own version of a Brobdingnag World. Who again might this name be? Granted this is metaphorical in context, my vision as I see her is a reality that belongs to me. A reality that I give permission for a greater force to fuel with validations throughout life challenges and celebrations. She is the essence of what expression is manifested through the tying, twisting, and weaving of fibers both thread and wood alike. A natural energy magnet where you are immediately drawn. Almost if “at will” she has lessened the pace her momentum in life down to the cellular level. Such that the bonds that were established to make up her physical body reacted at a much slower rate where 3 decades might pass and yet to see her, you realize that of the pair, you are the only one who has aged. If it were anyone else, I might take issue with that. The fact is she isn’t anyone else… She is my mother…Mary Draffen. A woman who is literally timeless has comforted me in ways that only a connected mother can do. I celebrate her, on this day...her birthday and know that there is an inexplicable connection that only she and I can possibly understand. She is a light for guidance, a coach for motivation, and a friend for knowing when you simply need a listening ear for purposes of support while not having to worry about receiving a response as your parent. She is…Mary Draffen. And she will ALWAYS be… the “Mother Defined.” ~MJD
