#abudhabioneyear Friday the 13th, 2014. It was past midnight when I walked into a freezing Abu Dhabi. But for the warmth and affection of my ‘official hosts’ and the dream-come-true dizziness, I would have really struggled. After nearly a year-long wait, I had finally made the giant leap. Easily my biggest moment for many many years! Although I was tired and feeling sleepy, the night in Abu Dhabi appeared quite young. The lighting along the mist-filled roads, flags Emirati falcon symbols and decoration surrounding the just concluded 42nd National Day celebration gave the city a festive look. Swanky cars zipping through the 12-lane motorways, restaurants and malls filled with young crowd well past 2pm - it did not take me long to realise that I was in a different world (pardon me for being a less-travelled, small-town bloke!). Over the next few days I will post some memories of my first year as an expat in Abu Dhabi. I know my personal tales may not interest everyone on my friends list. Therefore, I sincerely apologise for any inconvenience!
