#advicefromaparent If I could go back thirteen years I would tell myself these things. 1. The less you strive to get your sons to submit to you, the more influence you will have in their lives. 2. The less you talk, the more theyll listen. 3. The less you butt in, the more theyll seek you out. 4. Most of the fights youll have will spring out of your baggage, not their misbehavior. Try shutting up. 5. In terms of learning stuff, bad news: you arent that important. 6. When theyre little and you dont manage their environment and they melt down, thats on you. 7. Put away the curriculum. Really. 8. Read Montessori again. 9. More play time. 10. More walks. 11. More cooking with them. They want your time. 12. Less stuff. Its making them crazy. 13. Less criticism. Theyre absorbing it. 14. Better to be silent than speak in anger or impatience. 15. Relationship with you is what keeps your children safe. Dont mess it up by demanding they bend their will to yours. Naturally, I would be too bull-headed to listen. ~ The libertarian homeschooler
