I am THRILLED to inform you that as a result of the action taken by the TCSS Board of Education the Academic Scholars program will begin at the Middle School level, beginning with rising 6th graders in 2014-2015! Offered in all four academic classes beginning in the 6th grade, the Academic Scholars Program will take the place of the current honors classes and will provide intellectual and creative challenges to help students become skilled problem solvers and critical thinkers. In addition, it will incorporate project-based learning to give hands-on opportunities for students to learn, fostering the development of skills for communication, understanding, and team building, qualities that are essential for life in the 21st century. • Emphasis on project-based learning and “Science and Technology interpreted through Engineering and the Arts, all based in Mathematical elements” (STEAM) • Provided at the Middle School level, beginning with rising 6th graders in 2014-2015 • Training for new, experienced, and expert teachers on providing appropriate, challenging instruction (differentiated) for higher achieving students while still challenging all students to reach and exceed potential ...and we are only getting better!
