#artist #residencies - International call "Le Ville Matte 2013" Inhabiting the earth in Campidano #Villasor – #Sardinia – #Italy - 5 October – 4 November 2013 The Municipality of Villasor (Sardinia – Italy) announces the international selection for 7 (seven) artists for the Artist Residencies "Le Ville Matte", funded by the Province of Cagliari, Department of Culture. For the International and Cultural Project Artist Residencies | Le Ville Matte, third edition, the Municipality of Villasor has chosen the theme "Inhabiting the earth in Campidano", with immediate reference to both urban territories and agricultural land, to the community and to place identity in order to promote the active citizens involvement in identifying the ties binding people to their land, from the relationship with the houses with the purpose to bring, through artistic experimentation, awareness of the community on “sustainable living” issue and on the protection of local identity. Villasor like all towns in the Campidano valley, is a town funded by farmers. Over the centuries the community has shaped the countryside and established a life style suitable for agricultural labour, with strong ties to the land. Even the architecture is a reference to the rhythms of agriculture. New technologies have changed the approach to agricoltural work and lifestyle, causing abandon and destruction of the typical local houses, replaced by modern buildings. The abandoned houses became a priceless reference to local identity. Luckily few houses have been preserved, either for sensitivity or for economical reasons. The artists imagination and creative intervention will give new life to these structures and enhance the space wisely preserved. The artists with their sensitivity will approach such places, read the enclosed memories and bring new meanings. The community will read once again its past actualized and transformed. The residencies will take place in Villasor (Sardinia) from 5 October to 4 November 2013. Applications must be received no later than 6 September 2013. levillematte.it
