* * breaking news* * The inaugural Brisbane to Ipswich Marathon #briswichmara2014 has ended in disappointment with the only entrant disqualified for hitching a lift in a hotted up V8 ute for 6km of the distance! :O The run started well after getting a lift into the city (thanks Tracy) after the Ipswich QLD parkrun. strava/activities/208555408 Enjoying the views however feeling the temp creeping up knew it was going to be tough later on. The run moved away from the river and onto the cycle paths (possibly slightly illegal) but was still moving well, a sprint through one section of roadworks didnt help but the real issues came after crossing the Centenary Bridge... heat + headwind! Now this was hurting, although the temp gauge was only reading about 26ºC the direct sun and reflection off the bitumen/concrete was cooking me... just after the halfway point I had to lay down in the shade of a lamp post (thats all there was) for 10mins and there I knew I was going to struggle. I picked myself up and continued on only to run out of fluids a couple ks later... I pushed on slowly walking the hills and then enough was enough, after filling up with water from a servo asked I guy if he was going to Ipswich :( he wasnt but he did he could drop me off at the Ippy exit - done, in the ute and in air con... beautiful! :-D strava/activities/208555428 I got out close to Dinmore, hopped over the motorway fence and started running again, a little cooler... there was more walking to come but eventually I covered that final 10k and made it to the finish in Limestone Park... very relieved! strava/activities/208555421 Live & learn... need training, need sleep, need fluids, need to build up slowly... all good! :-D
