.... but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, Who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began. 2 Timothy 1:8,9; The afflictions, of the gospel: Greek; sugkakoucheo, to suffer hardships in company with, be partakers of afflictions. Paul exhorts Timothy to count upon afflictions, and get ready for them. Be not ashamed of the gospel. Be not ashamed of those who suffer for the gospel of Christ. It is the testimony of our Lord in and by this He bears testimony of Himself to us and by professing our adherence to it we bear testimony of and for Him. Expect afflictions for the gospels sake, be willing to take your lot with the suffering saints in this world. Be partaker of the afflictions of the gospel. Mathew Henry.
